Google is rolling out voice capabilities to its Gmail program. You can now call any phone in the US and Canada for free and at low rates internationally. The word is the service will be free through the end of this year. You’ll need a Google Voice account to utilize the service, and you will also need to activate the chat feature in Gmail. This poses a huge threat to the de facto service in this space, Skype. Of course, the jury is still out as to whether everyone will flock to use this latest service offering from the online giant. Recent offerings from Google such as Wave and Buzz were met with less that stellar enthusiasm… but hey a free call is a free call.

Need to set up a website but don’t want to deal with learning complicated HTML, CSS, scripting languages, and database configuration? Squarespace is a unique publishing system for websites and blogs. It offers robust web hosting and design options for bloggers, small businesses, podcasters, authors, and more. Squarespace makes complex design and development tasks simple with more than 20 core modules and over 300 fully-integrated features. I signed up for a free trial and was blown away with the richness of the design options and the ease of implementing site functionality. What takes a typical developer or designer hours or days to create from scratch can be accomplished on Squarespace in a matter of minutes. I had a polished, professional, fully functioning site within minutes of signing up for the free two week trial. Squarespace will even extend your trial period with a simple request if you need more time to evaluate their service. They offer a pricing package for just about any size web presence or budget. If you need a web site but don’t want the usual hassles, Squarespace is certainly something to checkout. They live up to a tag found on their site " A complex platform, elegantly presented".
